Description Duggan Veterinary Flea Spray Fast, Safe & Effective environmental control of fleas & mites • Environmental Flea Product • Effective on all stages of the Flea lifecycle as well as mites • Dual action silicone spray • Physical mode of action THE FLEA POPULATION WITHIN THE HOME All stages of the flea lifecycle are often found in pet households but only about 5% of the flea population are found as adult fleas on our dogs and cats in our homes. The flea eggs and the immature flea stages, such as the flea larvae and the flea pupae, survive in the environment and are often found in pet households, particularly in pet bedding, couches and carpets. Flea control should always include treating the environment as well as your pet and environmental treatment should be focussed on areas where the animal spends the most time, such as their basket or their favourite couch. Environmental flea control is always recommended when using topical flea products e.g. Imidacloprid or Fipronil Spot-ons. Many older flea treatment products are insecticides that chemically kill the flea or Insect Growth Regulators (IGR), that inhibit the growth and development of fleas. Safe & effective more modern treatments have recently been developed for controlling fleas in the environment, that work by physically trapping fleas in a sticky substance, a ‘sticky trap’ that can immobilise all stages of the lifecycle of fleas. Studies1 have shown that non-pesticide silicone based sprays can physically immobilise young (larval) and adult fleas as well inhibiting cocoon development. Applying a silicone based 0.4% dimethicone spray to a carpet was shown to as effective as a combination product of permethrin and pyriproxyfen at controlling fleas over at least a 3 week period.
